The second time with the help of my daughter and son we did it in 45 minutes. Best thing about it is affordability. If I have to replace it in 3 yrs it wont break the bank. Quality construction with attention to detail.
Not just sewn tie downs, but with metal D-Rings, extra long side walls with bury flap at bottom. 10oz fabric is a little lighter than some HD 13oz wall tents, but plenty adequate. Just got done camping in this tent and love it. I bought the frame and floor. First time set up was less than an hour.Next time I'd guess 30min. Only complaint was 2 of the plastic end caps are broke and fall out of the frame. Nothing a little electrical tape wont fix. I was supprised by the fact the floor is attached to the inside of the tent with D-rings and velcro. I wasn't expecting that. No rust issues with the D-rings that others have talked about. Waiting on my wood stove, So heated with a kerosene heater worked great for 37 deg. Used it this weekend for the first time.
Enough room for 2 guys, maybe 3. I made a'rain fly & entrance way' from painters canvas tarps. It added an extra level of insulation and helped protect the tent from dirt and leaves. Put some cheap moving blankets on the floor to keep the heat in, and the floor comfortable. Cant wait to try it in cooler temps. This is so roomy and nice it is like a little cabin inside. I have hunted out of an old WWII canvas tent over 45 years (still have it still love it) but our group has out grown it and needed a separate sleeping tent. This tent fit our needs. The negative to this tent is the metal'D' rings and clasps they used. They showed up rusty and after a week in the elements are now very rusty.
I set this up in the backyard at the first opportunity by myself. Setup was easy and I liked the way everything went together. I bought the entire package with tent, frame, and floor. My only complaints would be the tent stakes, which were minimal and pulled right out of the ground, I bought the waterproofing as well and they opened up and sprayed themselves inside of the plastic envelope that they packed them in; I ended up with about half the product by the time it got to my house.
At first I was a little disappointed as the tent didn't seem to fit on the frame. The walls were about 5 inches from the ground. We staked it out and then doused it with the water hose, tightening the ropes as we went. The canvas stretched out beautifully and not a drop of water inside. Tighten the ropes again and drive the wall stakes in (we used our own).At this point the walls were touching the ground and the mudlaps laid perfectly. Once it's all stretched out just let it dry in the sun. The only bad thing of the whole set up are the stakes - they're worthless, throw them out. Even though I'm a prima donna about stakes, these are more landscaping stakes than tent stakes. Having tented in some serious storms, we prefer 12 inch stakes for any tent up to a 12 foot footprint.
My only regret is, three days after purchasing they had their double you club discount. Oh well, that's life. More importantly; the wife likes really this tent,,,,,,,,,,, cause we all know; if the wife don't like it, eventually you won't like it.She actually said;'I really like this tent'. Easy to set up with 2 people. Holds up very well in windy conditions. Only thing missing in my opinion is a bug screen in the doorway. Seems to be the real deal.
So far only set up in the backyard. Nice features and finish for the price. And the frame sealed the deal for me, had been struggling with my old wall tent w homemade wood and aluminum frame. One tip - make a cheapo clear plastic rear window, you'll be amazed at how much light it brings in on a cold clear day. My Home Away From Hone.I have my tent parked 800-ft down a Sierra mountain canyon. Hauled it out once on my back, won't ever do that again. Hauled it back down, so I guess it's there to stay now.
It's lasted 4 years now, is getting stained from mildew, patched together from where a bear tried to get into it once (see pic below), other than that it's still just about perfect. The zipper tangs tend to break if you don't have the frame set up square (nothing is level in the mountains) so you might have to replace those occasionally.
I'd recommend you test fit the poles before hauling it anywhere, my second set of poles had horizontal members that were about 3 inches too long and were unusable for this tent. Luckily the original poles were still close by and I could switch those out but it would have been nicer to figure that out in civilization rather than 800 feet down a canyon in the middle of bear country with darkness fast approaching lol. Overall I absolutely love this tent, place tarps or emergency blankets on the ground around it to help keep bear and mountain lion away (they don't like to walk on it cause it makes noise).Had it set up in the woods for 4 days and it seems to be a solid product. Hubby and sons took it bear hunting, put a stove in it - heated them right out!! A great value for a real wall tent. This is a great wall tent.
We set it up and water tested it for 3 days and it works great. The Aluminum frame is wonderfull and everthing came with storage bags including the tent and all made from the same canvas. It appears to be a lighter canvas maybe a 10 0z. We will be using a stove when needed and it has a jack set up in the roof and the rear window does have a screen. We will be using it for Elk hunt base camp this year.Maybe this spring we can do beach camping and fishing on the gulf coast with the girls. There are no reviews anywhere on the web for this tent, I know I looked hard.
It is great and we love it. I do not see how other tents could be that much better, I could have bought any model, we wanted a canvas wall tent at a reasonable price with out puffery, we've had all the others. This is a very nice tent. In a test of heavy rain only tiny leak in the stove hole stitching. All my emt frame was coated with whitish residue. Small d ring stake holddowns around base of tent show signs of corrosion. Triangle rope holders at roofline are much better metal and should be used at the ground too. I consider enclosed tentstakes to be inadequate for a wall tent.
All things correctable, and extended use is planned. The tent would be better if it had a hole for a stove stack. In the last couple months I've ordered the 10x12 frame and wall tent the service was great and helpful. For the last 15 yrs or so I used a different wall rent with no frame, recently I went out on a moose hunt with my 3 kids having the tent with frame made the for an easy set up and not having to find the right wood to make a frame. My kids thanks you and I thank you. When we set the tent up for a dry run for a camping event that we will be doing later in the year, we saw that one of the Eyelets (metal ring to hold the roof pin in) over the door was missing. The hole was there but it is needing to have it to keep it strong.
